Effects of hydroalcoholic extracts of oregano (Mentha longifolia L.), spearmint (Mentha piperita L.), Satureja (Satureja hortensis L.) and double and triple mixtures of extracts in vitro against Trichomonas vaginalis

Background: Triticuminosis is a protozoan and protozoan progenitor disease, which can cause transmitted infections through sexual contact with humans. Tricomoniais is one of the common non-viral genital organs by flagellate Trichomonas vaginalis occurs. Vaginal trichomoniasis is common in women and has symptoms such as pruritus and abnormal discharge. Sexually transmitted infections can be transmitted and the infection in men is often asymptomatic. Treatment with imidazoles, such as tinidazole and methotretinoate, is also known as methotrexate. Metronidazole and Tinidazole are two selective drugs for treatment of trichomoniasis, but potential carcinogenesis, teratogenic effects on fetuses and resistance to metronidazole have been reported. Due to the cytotoxic effects of medicinal plants such as Pune, Peppermint and Tobacco on microbial organisms, and the effects of these three factors on Trichomonas vaginalis, this study was carried out.
Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, hydroalcoholic extracts of Puneh, Peppermint and Sorghum were prepared by soaking method. Then, in test tubes containing parasite culture medium, different concentrations of extracts Hydroalcoholic Pune, Peppermint and Sardinia, and double and triple mixture of extracts of these three herbs were added. In the ninth tube, 50 μg of metronidazole was added to the culture medium and added to the tenth tube only DMSO and in the 11 ml tube of 50 μl of the culture medium. Then, to all the environments, about 104 Trichomonas parasites (constant concentration of the parasite) were added. And the internal cavity was placed at 37 ° C. In order to study the growth rate of the parasites, the above samples were cultured at 12, 24, 48 and 72 hours later, each time 10 μl of each tube was removed and the number of parasites was counted and the statistical judgment it placed.
Results: Antiangial power of Puneh, Peppermint and Sourgean herbs and both binary mixtures in concentrations of 5, 8, 10 and triple mixture of extracts in concentrations of 4, 5, 8 and 10 mg / ml Liters showed excellent inhibitory effect on Trichomonas parasites, as these effects are similar to the effects of metronidazole.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, the triple mixture of hydroalcoholic extract of Pune, Mint and Sardinia has a strong inhibitory effect on Trichomonas Vaginalis and can be considered as an alternative drug
