Identification of Some pharmaceutical plant species in Zabol (Iran, Sistan and Baluchistan province) and Their application in traditional medicine

Background and Purpose: Pharmaceutical plants have an important role in health supply for both cure and prevention of diseases. Ethno-botany is a study to revive traditions which are unwritten and in danger of extinction. It is a valuable guide to identify new pharmaceutical plants and herbal medicine. The purpose of this research is ethno-botanical identification and investigation of some of pharmaceutical plants in Zabol which is used widely by local people to treat and prevent diseases.
Materials & Methods: This study was carried out on the basis of field survey, information of local people, and documentary research. Plant species were collected from different regions by virtue of local people introduction especially the rural elderly and were dried as in herbarium after identification.
Results: in this study, 25 pharmaceutical plant species from 19 families were identified. Some of these plants such as colocynth, fennel, eucalyptus, ajwain and purslane was recognized by many people and their therapeutic properties was mentioned. Most of local plants identified in traditional medicine, were used as diuretic, stomach tonic and wound healing.
Conclusion: according to limitation of domestic resources, through a rational management and development of employment projects, we can have not only maximum production and efficiency but also protect these valuable resources.
