Collecting and identifying a selection of wild plants of Baft township (Iran, Kerman province) and study of their traditional uses

Traditional medicine is the oldest form of medicine and mainly the integral part of life in different communities. Iranian traditional medicine with centuries-old history has a high capacity to prevent and cure diseases that can be used to solve many health and hygiene problems Baft Province with an area about 13162 kilometers, at an altitude of 2250 meters above sea level and 17/29 north latitude and 36/56 east longitude located in Kerman province. This city with the specific conditions of temperature, altitude and precipitation leads to development of such plants which are compatible with this environment.
In this study plants were collected from mountainous areas. After identification, voucher specimens were prepared in the Herbarium of Pharmacy department of Kerman University of Medical Sciences.
A total number of 95 medicinal plant species belonging to 30 families and 75 genera were collected. The most commonly represented families were Labiateae with 21 species .The genus Nepeta with 9 species was more dominant than other genera. Medicinal herbs which are studied here, have a great usage in traditional remedy. The most predominant application of these plants were in cure of digestive disorders and respiratory disease.
According to abundance and widespread usage of medicinal herbs, more assessments would prepare a new area for identifying plants with new and novel properties.
