Any attempt to revise, review, and, of course, doing such tasks requires accurate and comprehensive information about it. This includes understanding the structure of the book, being informed about the existing manuscripts, versions (editions), corrections, and, of course, translations into different languages. So far, many efforts have been made to specify the structure of this book. Efforts have been made to introduce the manuscripts of the Canon, but there is still no comprehensive list of all manuscripts of this book. Considering the significance of having access to the oldest and most complete versions for publishing and revising this valuable book, the importance of making catalogs of the manuscripts of the book becomes twofold. In the present article, as a first step, a list containing all manuscripts of the Canon of Medicine published in the major libraries of Iran and the world has been prepared. However, we consider this list just as one of the lists of Canon of Medicine manuscripts and is prepared based on the year of transcription, and it is still far from being finalized. 1039 Special Tips on reviewing, introducing, and using manuscripts of the Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine Hosseini Ashkevari S. d d Bibliographer, independent researcher and expert in Islamic manuscripts, Qom - Iran 1 3 2019 9 ويژه نامه زمستان 33 44 18 03 2019 18 03 2019   The Canon of Medicine is one of the most important medical books of the Islamic era, which has been published in different parts of the Muslim world for its reputation and importance during different periods of time. M. A. e e PhD in Linguistics, professor at the University of Almeria, Spain, author of the Medical Encyclopedia of Islam and Iran 1 3 2019 9 ويژه نامه زمستان 45 52 18 03 2019 18 03 2019   The significance of the book “Canon of Medicine” by Avicenna in the world medicine originates from its comprehensiveness, purposefulness and systematic structure. This book is not only considered in Iran and the Muslim world but in Europe. Along with its numerous European editions and translations, many manuscripts are kept in Europe. We can hardly find any major libraries in Europe in which there is not at least one Arabic manuscript of this book. The introduction and review of writing’s year of these editions is one of the most important tasks that should be done by librarians from Iran, Muslim world or Europe. Failure to collect this information from Europe about the book over the past years has led to less use of European manuscripts during the reprints of the Canon of Medicine, for at least two decades in Iran as well as in Beirut. Accordingly, as the first step to fill this gap, it is necessary to present a report on the manuscripts, translations and editions of this book, based on the European libraries’ sources. Since many major European libraries are rapidly digitalizing their own manuscripts and publishing them on a virtual network, being informed about the origins of this European inventory will cause considering these manuscripts for future studies on Canon. 1041 Special Illustrations on Avicenna's Canon of Medicine Hakim Syed Zillur Rahman f f Researcher of Islamic medicine, Chairman and Board Member of the Islamic University of Aligarh, New Delhi, India 1 3 2019 9 ويژه نامه زمستان 53 56 18 03 2019 18 03 2019 Ibn Sina's (Avicenna) masterpiece, Canon of Medicine, is among the most important medical books around the world.
